Excerpt 1

Later at home, Jackie began her night with a soak in the Jacuzzi and a glass of wine. With the sage incense burning, she lay back and allowed her mind to wander. Soon she fell into the rhythm of the rippling water. Within an instant her worries about work were out of her thoughts. The only thing that mattered was being in the here and now.

Her solitude was interrupted by the ring of her phone. Smiling, Jackie pressed the answer key.

“Hi Jackie, are you busy now?” Lisa asked.

“No, I’m just having a relaxing evening at home. And you?”

“Getting ready to get into my Jacuzzi.”

Jackie smiled to herself and replied, “Oh, wow! How’d you know I’m in mine?”

“Oh, it just came to me. Since everyone is out of the house, tonight would be a perfect night for a soak.” Pausing a moment, Lisa continued, “Anyway, I just called to tell you that next Thursday, my friend, Jen, has an art showing at the Illusion Gallery in West Hollywood. I was wondering if you’d like to go with me.”

Jackie’s eyes lit up. She and Kyle had been there years ago, and she really liked the art.

“Lisa, I’d love to go with you. What type of work does your friend do?”

“She is a contemporary artist who adds photographs to her work. If you would like, I can send you a link to her web site.”

Jackie rattled off her email address.

“Oh, I haven’t told you this yet.”

“What’s that?”

“For some time now I’ve been dabbling in some artwork myself. I do sculpture and would like to show you a piece that I just finished.”

Jackie felt herself tense up. Now she understood the image she had witnessed at Lauren’s party. Still she was baffled. “That would be great. I’d love to see your work.”

“All right. While you’re here I’ll show you something else I’ve been playing with.” Lisa then explained her love for African masks.

“This is so wonderful. Tell me more about your African safari vacation,” Jackie said.

Jackie and Lisa spoke for a little while.

Excerpt 2

Jackie shuddered. After a quick debate, she decided not to confide in her. After all she didn’t know Lisa very well and didn’t want to burden her with her problems.

“Thanks.”

“Listen, the reason for my call was that I wanted to know what you were doing next Thursday. If I’m not mistaken, don’t you have that day off?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, I was wondering if you’d like to come over and see my sculptures.”

Energetically, Jackie replied, “I’d love to come over and see your work. Recently a friend took me to an art gallery and they had one sculpture artist.

“I just love working with plaster. Sometimes I paint them. Tribal looks are my favorite. I have a picture of one that I recently sold that I’d like to show you.”

“I wished it was next Thursday already. I know I’m in for a real treat.”

“It’s a date then. How about around 6:00 p.m?”

After Jackie hung up the phone, she went to the kitchen and refilled her glass. Plopping on the couch, she thought about her vision she’d witnessed of Lisa.

I wonder if Lisa is going to hit the big time? Why else did this come to me?

“I know, why don’t I try a meditation and see if anything comes forward,” she said aloud.

She prepared.

It didn’t take her long to get relaxed, since she was already drunk. Closing her eyes, she began deep breathing. Soon the white glowing screen materialized. At first, all she saw were colored shapes. Then people started to materialize.

Suddenly, Jackie saw herself among the crowd. Loud voices and music were all around her, clear as day. The smell of beer and smoke filled the air. With awe in her eyes, Jackie looked amongst the people huddled in front of the Bowtie Club.

A group of people emerged from the bar and walked over to the curb. One person met eye contact with Jackie and gave her a strange look. Jackie looked away, not caring what it meant. Looking around, she recognized a woman whom she used to know down at the corner. Jackie moved in closer.

A chill crept up her legs, so she walked more briskly. Once at the corner, she met eye contact with her friend. However, the woman just kept talking like nothing at all. No matter how much Jackie waved, she could not get her attention. Disappointed, she turned to walk down the street. When she got to the corner, she turned and continued walking.

Out of nowhere came the loud barking of a large dog. Frantically, she bolted down the street as fast as she could. To her horror, the dog chased her!

I’ve got to get to safety, and fast too!

The next thing she knew, she was back in her living room and rubbing her legs, trying to get warm and out of breath. She tried to rationalize what had just happened and had no success. And then a dog reacted to her. Frightened, she left all the lights on and before she went to bed.

Meet Author Domina Alexandra

Good afternoon friends and welcome. Today I have asked author Domina Alexandra to stop by to chat with us about her new book from Triplicity Publishing, ‘I belong with Her’, which is now available for you to enjoy. Come on over and meet this fabulous woman. You are going to be amazed. We’ll see you over there.

“Find something you love and do it in purpose.”
-Unknown author

Tell us about yourself.
Where do I begin? I am from Southern California. I guess that’s a great place to start off. I’ve always been a deep thinker and writer. Sports was the thing that outshined my ability to write. I became an EMT in 2014; wanting to make a difference. I have come to learn, I really became an EMT to give back. I wasn’t a wild kid; only a confused spirit. Coming out totally helped discover who I am today. Discover my passion above all things. To become a writer, who loves to serve the community on the side.

What is your favorite part of writing?
If I can get lost in my writing, I’ve reached the highest point of living every time! Writing can make me feel so many things. I always say I create from pure imagination that I gained from being stuck in my head too long as a child. Every story I create is a world I can escape into, and that’s one of my most favorite things about writing.

Book Cover

How would you describe the protagonist in your new book? How did the idea for the location come about?
SELRES_68d5cbe3-240a-45f9-a68e-d4167281b70bSELRES_03f0de7d-e8fb-4cb4-ab03-84e55271b281Both of my leading characters in my book are passionate about what they do. Living as a Paramedic; seeing life in a new way, opens them up to be strong, independent, and quite both feisty women. A piece of how I see myself. The location was easy to come up with. Moving to Oregon; the lifestyle and ambiance are amazing. I simply thought, why not?SELRES_03f0de7d-e8fb-4cb4-ab03-84e55271b281SELRES_68d5cbe3-240a-45f9-a68e-d4167281b70b

Being from LA, are you into sports. If so, what teams do you like?
I used to be a huge sports player. I grew up playing basketball. In time, I fell in love with volleyball. I know, a typical lesbian thing, from what I hear. Far as sports teams, I haven’t cheered for a team in years. If my friends are watching a game, I’d just support their favorite team for that day.

What is the cutest thing your dogs do?
I have a lot of pictures of dogs, but none of them are mine. I have a couple of friends who ask me to dog sit for them on occasion. Now, I spend time with them as if I’m their Godmom, spoiling them and sending them back home.

How is living in Oregon different from SoCal?
For starters, the trees and all its glorious nature! I say southern California is half alive. As for Oregon, its green, vibrant, and fully living. I’ve made much quicker connections in Oregon and the openness of how others think is much vivid than I ever knew possible.

Where have you seen the most beautiful sunrise?
Detroit Lake, Oregon has one of the based spots to see an amazing sunrise. I think I took over two dozen pictures of that alone and that’s saying much.

Lake Detroit Oregon

Where is a great place to hike near where you live?
I love Silver Falls. 10 waterfalls along the trail. I’ve been to Silver falls several times in the last two years.

What other authors do you follow and why?
Radclyffe, Graysen Morgen, Patricia Briggs, Jae. I could keep going! They each have a style; an ability about them that has helped me build up my confidence to do the same. Write and do it in a way that makes others want to do it too. Their imagination, personal knowledge, openness to write outside the scope of mundane life. It all excites me about them!Machu Picchu

If you won a prize for a vacation in the Caribbean or Peru, which one would you pick and why?
Peru is the definite choice. Me on an island or beach, in general, is not my ideal vacation. Going on a vacation like to Peru, I’d gain more culture and history out of it. That goes back to me being a deep thinker and wanting to know what historical moments took place? My nerd kicks on!

You get the call from a producer who wants to make a movie out of your book. Would you want to have a cameo appearance?
It wouldn’t matter to me if I could play a small part in the movie or not! I’d been more ecstatic just knowing my book was being viewed in a more visual content.

Who has been the biggest influence on your writing?
For most of my life, writing has been a private thing for me. Not something I shared with others, until recently. It started off as just a tool to get my thoughts down and grew from there. I read so many books, my mind popped multiple times. Coming out, I finally understood the missing link to why I couldn’t write before and found my inspiration again. I found my true passion. So, my biggest inspiration comes from authors. The many Lesbian books I read and even books that weren’t queer based. I believed in myself through those Authors stories!

Do you believe dreams can come true?
Yes! I believe we can manifest what we truly desire and dream of. Does it come the way we want and when we would like it? Not always, but, dreams can come true if you just believe! That sounded so Disney and Hallmark!

Let’s talk about your experience with the Live Theatre program. Are you still working in the theater?
I loved working in Theatre. It was an accident getting into Theatre. I needed to fill in my College credits for the semester and that was all that was left. I went in thinking, I’d hide in the background. I was quite anti-social back then, it was one of the biggest changes in my life. I began to discover myself, and in the process realized I was hell of great. Was in the Theatre program, four years. Toward the end, I learned I enjoyed writing screenplays, comedy skits, and monologues more than acting. I had this popular comedy skit called, “Studdar Ball.” Though someday I plan to get back into skit writing, for now, I’m solely focused on being a Queer based fictional writer.

What’s next for you?
I am writing a new story right now. Truthfully, I have multiple books already written. I’ve just been sitting on them for the last few years. But now that I’m actively becoming a published author, I can’t stop writing. Expect nothing but more books to come and of a wide genre of lesbian fiction!

Me: I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.

Lisa tapped her head and said, “Now I remember what I wanted to talk to you about. Tom told me that you love to go to the downtown Art Walk. You know, I’ve never been. Would you be up to going with me sometime?”

“Yeah, there’s one coming up next month. I’d love to go. What time do you get off from work?” Jackie said.

“Five o’clock, but I can always find an excuse to get off early. If you’d like, I could come pick you up.”

Lisa gave her phone to Jackie so she could add her information. The second Jackie touched it, she felt a bolt of energy flow through her. An instant later, she saw a flash of Lisa standing in front of a sculpture grinning. Jackie dropped the phone into her lap.

“Jackie, did I say something to offend you? If I did, I’m really sorry.”

“No. I’m not sure what just happened.”

“Are you feeling nauseous? Why don’t you sit right here, and I’ll get you a cold towel?”

When Lisa returned, she handed the towel to Jackie. Jackie buried her head in it, absorbing the moisture.

Why am I seeing random visions? This is maddening!

After a minute, she put the towel down and said, “Sometimes I just get lightheaded. It’s nothing to worry about.”

pexels-photo-573299.jpegNow for a surprise teaser to get you started.

She did her best to blend in, walking around, drink in hand. Then she saw Holly. This time she wasn’t letting her get away, so she locked in on her.
Arching her eyebrow, Holly said, “So you’re back, I see. How would you like to go do something bad?”
Jackie felt her heart race like she was running a marathon. Her nipples hardened and her insides quivered. Smiling, she replied, “What did you have in mind?”
     “Whatever you’d like.”
Jackie led her to the pool house. She imagined feeling the warmth of the woman’s smooth naked skin against hers.
They slipped into the darkness. The glow of the full moon provided their only light.       Closing the door, Holly was suddenly all over her. “Are you ready for the ride of your life?” Holly asked.
Jackie barely got, “Oh, yes” out of her mouth when Holly’s mouth was upon hers. She worked her tongue into Jackie’s mouth and their tongues danced. Reaching behind Jackie, she unzipped her dress and gently moved it over her shoulders. It fell to the floor and Jackie kicked it away.

Meet Author Kathy L. Salt

Good afternoon friends and welcome. I want to thank Jennifer Lynn and all of you who visited the site last week. For those of you who missed her guest blog, you can read it here.

Jennifer Lynn’s Journey

Today we are chatting with international author Kathy L. Salt, whose debut book, ‘Out of Hand’, is now available. Kathy is with Triplicity Publishing and is a rising star. Come see why and feel free to ask her question in the comments.img_0935

“Writers aren’t people exactly. Or, if they’re any good, they’re a whole lot of people trying so hard to be one person.”

– F. Scott. Fitzgerald.

Tell us about yourself?
I’m a twenty-eight-year-old teacher and author living in Sweden with my wife and our two dogs. The most important thing to know about me is that I teach young children, which means I might over-explain things to you in a slow voice, cut your food for you and ask if you’ve been to the restroom if you complain that your stomach hurts.

What is your book ‘Out of Hand’ about?
It’s about a kidnapping. It sprung from the wish to write a story about the kidnapping of a woman so bitchy the kidnappers couldn’t take it anymore. It became a story about Leo who does kidnap Mimi but very reluctantly so and Mimi’s demanding nature only makes Leo like her. In the end, the lines blur between them. The interesting thing about the book is that they make a journey from Britain, through France, and into Germany and I’m proud of the way I have described the different places.

Book CoverWhat traits do you look for in your protagonists?
The number one thing I don’t want them to be is perfect, but I struggle with making anyone downright cruel. I need to still be able to like them and understand why they’re acting like they do. I also love giving them a rich backstory whether I put it in the book or not.

How have your two dogs been a positive influence?
I believe in responsibility and that it’s healthy. We got our first dog when we were twenty-two and the change in me from just being a student to a dog-owner and having to take care of something other than myself was very positive. It also made me less lonely when my wife (then girlfriend) was away during the day.

Let’s talk about your blog. What things do you like to write about?
I struggle a lot with my blog and am very bad at updating it regularly. When I created it, it was a place to share my short stories and sometimes ramble on about writing or, occasionally, family history. Nowadays I don’t have the energy for short stories and sadly I don’t have that much to say about writing either – I just want to do the writing. The only thing I have things to say about now is teaching and that feels wrong since it’s not a teacher blog. I need to come up with a plan to keep my blog alive. Maybe I will do a theme, like motivation-Mondays or write blog posts in an alphabetical order (first month I write about something on a word or thing starting with A, next month something on B etc…).

Me:  Be sure to check out Kathy’s blog and sign up. You are going to love her themes.

Kathy’s Blog

Kathy’s Tumblr Blog

I see you write down goals for the year. Why do you set them and what role do they play in your everyday life?
I love having a goal in every aspect of my life, I am a teacher after all. If I didn’t have a goal, I wouldn’t know where I was going. My goals, however, are pretty much always the same, every year I want to finish the book I’m writing, start a new one, publish an old one. I can’t be more ambitious than that while I work full-time.Kathy's dogs

You have also created short stories which you share on your WordPress blog page. How is writing short stories different from writing a full-length novel?
They’re very different, from start to finish. My short-stories are rawer, more stream-of-consciousness, less agonizing over every word. They’re also less planned. When I write a full-length novel I plan every bit, sometimes I don’t follow the plan fully or change it as I continue, but short stories are not planned at all. I know what I want to write and sometimes I put down some sentences at the end of the document I’m working on but that’s it. Full-length novels get a whole folder with lots of documents of planning.

What was the last book you read and what would you like to say about the author?
The book I’ve almost finished now is ‘Close Enough to Touch’ by Cade Brogan. It’s the first of hers I’ve read but after reading this, I want to read more!

Do you keep a journal? If so how has it helped you?
I do and have for most of my life. The newest one, however, is mostly for regular journaling but some pages are more bullet-journal like. My pages aren’t neat and pretty like you see online, but it’s good enough for me. I like record-keeping, like how much I’m writing or exercising, books that I’m reading etc. I should, however, be doing some journaling every day, I’ve noticed in the past that it helps sort out my thoughts and feelings and helps with stress.

What is it like living in Sweden?
I love living here. I’ve lived in a couple of places on-off since I was a child. United Arab Emirates. Britain. To me, Sweden is the best, but I’m probably biased being half-Swedish. People tend to be really trusting and that’s nice. I really like the climate too and that we don’t have that many animals or critters that can kill you. Both the wife and I really enjoy the changing of the seasons going from quite cold to fairly warm. We live rather south now but we used to live in the north a few years ago and we’d get minus 30 degrees Celsius, that was kind of cool. Kalmar Castle, Kalmar, Sweden

Describe a typical day for yourself.
I wake up at 5.30, prepare breakfast and lunchboxes for myself and the wife. I put hers in the hallway because she’s forgotten to go into the kitchen in the past. I’m a morning person and I love having a nice, calm breakfast, lighting some candles, putting on some calm music, drinking something warm etc. But when you’re waking up before six it’s a bit too early even for me. I leave around six, arrive around seven since I work at a small public school outside the city. The working day is usually lost in a haze of parental emails, meetings not to mention actually teaching. I have an adorable class of 25 seven-year-olds. They’re quite well-behaved now but if anyone is interested to see how it was just last semester, they can check out my blog post “Adventures in Teaching First Graders.” My job is stressful and wonderful and crazy, and I somehow love it and hate it at the same time. Sometimes I wish I could leave for any other job, but it’s the only thing I can and want to do.

After work I sometimes go swimming, sometimes go to my parents for a cup of tea, sometimes head straight home. I pick up the dogs from dog daycare (wife leaves them in the morning) do a load of laundry, start dinner. Wife arrives, we eat and talk about our days. When all that is done, I could do some writing, but my brain is usually too tired, so I read or play video games or watch something. (My creative writing waits until weekends or holidays, like this one, both kids and I have the coming week off – plenty of time for writing!) We go to bed at nine or ten, sometimes eight. After all, my alarm rings at 5.30 the next day again.

What video games do you enjoy playing?
I haven’t played Tomb Raider myself, but my wife has played all of them and I watched her. I love Bioware games like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. I also loved Horizon Zero Dawn. I want to play Witcher 3 but am waiting for my wife to play through it first (after all, that game is hers.) I enjoyed Telltale games like The Walking Dead Game. I like games with a story and I like RPGs where I can play as a female character.

My heart, however, will always belong to the Dragon Age series, in fact, I have a play-through of Dragon Age Inquisition going on right now. Dragon Age is also the reason why I try to hide a nightingale in all my stories, it’s a homage to my favorite character ever, who happens to be from a video game.

What is a favorite dish that you like to prepare for your wife?
My wife’s favorite dish is a traditional Swedish one, mash, meatballs, and lingonberry. It’s an easy dish to prepare for me too since I can just swap the meatballs for vegetarian meatballs and we both get something we enjoy since she eats meat and I don’t. She loves potato in all forms so most of what I cook for her will have it.

As a teacher, how does your interaction with students make a difference in your community?
I have put my heart into my job. Instead of choosing private schools to work at, I have stayed in public schools because the kids who need the most help won’t always be at private schools. I have chosen to take over rather difficult classes (not the one I have now though, to be fair I needed the rest) where I’ve had students, mainly boys, who have acted out in different ways or come from backgrounds where there are drugs and/or violent parents. I have also been actively involved in my school’s conflict-solving group where we helped children who are stuck in bad behavior or have been harassed in some way. I’ve also been involved in two cases where we’ve had to contact social services.

What other countries would you be interested in visiting?
Hmm. I had to think about this one for a while. I want to go to Iceland because they have a working temple to Odin there and I want to see it. I want to go to Brazil because my wife was born there, and we still haven’t gone there together. But no, where I want to go the most is Kiruna, the north part of Sweden where my dad was born. Mainly to just walk around in nature and see what grows there.

detailed_road_map_of_icelandNorthern Sweden MapMap of Brazil

What is next for you?
What’s very next for me is a week off from work which I desperately need. When it comes to writing I just sent Stargazing, a lesbian romance, off to my publisher and while waiting for an editor to contact me I’ll be working on my newest, still-unnamed, novel which is about a professor and a student who falls for each other. It’s set in Aberdeen, at a university I once attended so it’s pretty fun to write.

Book Cover

Before we go, I have included an excerpt from this fine story. Enjoy.

*

Leo had never been a planner. Which was an odd thing, considering that in her line of work, even the tiniest mistake could be the end of the operation. Most smugglers probably had a brilliant masterplan for each job. And a plan B in case something went wrong. And a plan C just to be sure. But Leo never did. Making so many plans she could lose herself in them, wasn’t her thing. She didn’t plan. She reacted. Leo didn’t need a plan, she had her instincts. Her talent for improvisation had saved her more than once.

But kidnapping an adult person required a different kind of praxis. To kidnap someone you needed a plan. Leo should have known all of that and still had headed to Mimi’s place without one. All she had known was that she would go to Mimi’s place, find her very hungover and in bed, and then… well, she would have decided when she got there.

What she hadn’t anticipated was an obvious workaholic heading to work while hardly able to walk. Idiot. But so very, very good for Leo. It had been too easy. She couldn’t believe that she was actually out of London with her ‘package’.

Mimi had been completely quiet during the whole ride so far and when Leo stole a glance at her, she could see that she was very pale. Her complexion had taken on a green tone. She better not throw up.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Mimi hissed when their gazes met. “Are you some big creepy kidnapper?”

Her voice had a hard edge to it, as if she was more pissed off than scared, and against her better judgment, Leo was impressed. She didn’t answer and turned her gaze back to the wheel. She guessed she should have been more concerned over what to do next but she kept cruising along the road, not even breaching the speed limit. It was better to act normal than call the attention of the police.

She had to stop somewhere of course. Call Sandra. Hal too. And book tickets for the ferry from Dover to Calais. Hmm. I need to figure out the ferry situation. Leo stole another glance at her little prisoner.

“I need to throw up.” Mimi sucked in air through her mouth but instead of puffy cheeks, Mimi looked determined. Leo wasn’t a fool. She just wants you to stop the car so she can try to get away.

“Use some of the fabrics in the back.” It was a test and from Mimi’s stunned silence, Leo knew that she had won.

“That’s my livelihood, you know,” Mimi said. “Those fabrics weren’t cheap.”

The need to throw up seemed forgotten and Leo ignored her.

“Are you stupid?” Venom dropped from every word that came out of Mimi’s mouth when she continued to talk. “Were you dropped on your head as a child? I demand you stop the car and let me go right now.”

“That’s not happening.”

Leo didn’t care about Mimi, she could say anything, do anything, it wouldn’t stop Leo from doing what had to be done. After all, Sandra was counting on her.

Meet Author Graysen Morgen

Good afternoon friends and welcome. I want to thank all of you who visited last week for my 2018 Goals blog. Today I have a special treat for you. Author Graysen Morgen  of Triplicity Publishing  is here to talk with us. This is an interview you want to read. She is amazing. Come see why.

Author Profile Picture

Tell us about yourself.
I’ve been happily married to my best friend for 18½ years, and we have a 7-year-old daughter. I went to the University of Florida, which is where I met my wife. I was a Lieutenant in the Navy, working as a flight deck officer on an aircraft carrier. I now spend my time writing books, sports writing for women’s pro soccer, and coaching youth soccer.

What is your book “Boone Creek” about?
Boone Creek is a western, set in Colorado in 1880. This story is the first in a series about an outlaw woman named Jessie Henry, who leaves her past behind to start anew. She winds up in a small, troubled town called Boone Creek, where after a mishap, she becomes the Town Marshall.

Me: Graysen’s new book, ‘Castor Valley’, is the second in this series and one that you’re going to want to read.

How did you feel the moment you saw your first book published?
I was overjoyed. I’d always loved reading, and once I’d started writing, it sort of took off. I’m still thrilled to see each new book get published. It’s a huge sense of accomplishment.

What was the last book you read? Would you recommend it?
I don’t find as much time to read as I used to, but the last book I made time for was Scarlett. It’s a sequel to Gone With The Wind, by Alexandra Ripley.

How has your daughter been an inspiration for you?
My daughter, Rylie, is my whole world. She looks up to me in so many ways and mimics everything I do. I try my best to be a good role model for her. She makes me a better person. When I first wrote Natural Instinct, my wife and I weren’t thinking of having any children, at least at that time. It’s funny, my daughter turned out very similar in character to the little girl in the book. I don’t write many children into my books, but each one has a piece of Rylie in it for sure, whether it’s when she was little, what she’s like now, or what I hope for her to be like as she gets older.

Graysen and Rylie

What are your daughter’s creative activities?
She loves anything to do with art, and she’s actually written two books about animals, both of which she also illustrated. Plus, an avid reader and has a soaring imagination.

How has your family been supportive of your career?
My wife is the person who first told me I should write my own stories, instead of reading so many books, mostly because after reading a book, I’d tell her everything I would’ve done differently. J When I wrote a couple of stories, she pushed me to get them published. She’s been behind me from the very beginning. The rest of my family is very proud of what I have accomplished. Some of them have read every single book that has been published.

Can you explain more about “#Bekindchallenge”?
Be Kind Challenge is about random acts of kindness. There is so much power in a simple gesture. The challenge is a month of doing one kind thing every day.

What is the cutest thing your dogs do?
Remy and Roxy are Jack Russell Terriers who are just over a year old. They are littermate girls, and they run our lives! J They chase each other around the house, watch TV with our daughter, hang out in the office when I’m writing, you name it. I’d say the cutest thing is the way they are always together. The sleep in the oddest positions like yin/yang or on top of each other.

Roxy and Remy

Who are you rooting for in the next World Cup Soccer championship?
If it’s the World Cup, then I’m always rooting for the USA. I’m a fan of Canada, Australia, and England so I root for them if they’re not playing the USA.

Where is a good place to hang out with friends?
We do a lot of family stuff, so our hangout this past year was Disney World, literally every month. We have an oasis in our backyard, so hanging out at home is always nice.

What would be the perfect ‘stay-cation’ for you?
We pretty much have a stay-cation every weekend, but the perfect stay-cation for me would be some quiet time with absolutely nothing to do but read a novel or lie in the hammock by the pool.

What is your favorite time of year and why?
I love the holidays. There is just something magical about that time of year. We decorate inside and put up a full yard display outside with a lot of lights and wood cutouts that I make myself. I also look forward to the little bit of cold weather that we get in North Florida.

Would you ever want to co-write a book with another author?
Probably not. I believe all authors have a vision, and everyone’s vision is different.

What puts you in the zone when you are writing?
Music is my muse, so I listen to music when I write. It varies from classical to pop and everything in between.

Soccer Coach

What’s next for you?
I am currently working on a romantic adventure/suspense story that involves British MI6. I’m really hoping to turn it into a series. It’s fun, thrilling, sexy, humorous, all the qualities that make for a good read.

Yearly Goals 2018

Hello, Everyone! It’s great to see you all. First of all, I’d like to thank all of you who stopped by last week for my review of Blake Everstone’s, ‘Ominous Tales.’ It was great seeing you all.

It’s January again, which means long nights and short days. That doesn’t cut into my workday though, and I continue to work in the dark aka 5:00 p.m. Good news is the days are now getting longer and on 11-Mar-18 we will be back on daylight savings time. I have really been enjoying the new year so far and am looking forward to what’s next.2015-09-08 11.10.25This year I am setting goals as opposed to resolutions. These seem to fail for one reason or another. I have read goal lists that other people have shared and I saw for myself that they work. One of my FB friends does goals and she succeeds in meeting them. I am amazed at authors who do this because I believe in the practice.

I’ve made some 2018 goals that I’d like to share with you:

Workout Profile1.   Workout at the gym three times a week at a moderate speed.
2.   Keep drinking lots of water.
3.   Write more personal blogs.
4.   Keep reaching out to artists and authors.
5.   Submit a new manuscript to be published.
6.   Get my other WIP’s finished.
7.   Stay positive.
8.   Have get-togethers with friends and family.
9.   Go see live musical performances.
10. See a few live Dodger games.
11. Get out of town and take a short trip.Morro BayThat is my list so far. I’ll add more as the year goes on. I’m going to keep this blog and refer to it from time to time to see how I’m progressing. I understand that some are ongoing and my goal is to incorporate them into my schedule with ease.

In recent years, I’ve noticed a shift in my consciousness and I now feel that a lot of things that used to bother me I’ve let go.

Going to the gym used to be a chore for me, now I view it as a fun way to help maintain my physical health. Also, it has done wonders in such ways as stress reduction and increased energy. I am able to go now and set the cardio machine on a low level and get a nice workout. I just bring my water bottle and my phone and I’m in another world.Full SunLast weekend we helped out with a blanket drive for the homeless. We bagged up the blankets and took them to downtown LA to distribute. It was an eye-opening experience and one that I’m glad I helped out with. There were a lot of tents up on the sidewalks. It felt good to help out and to hear people tell me “God Bless.” I plan to do more work like this.

I believe in always being positive and I have seen results with this attitude. Very grounded and confident people are coming my way in greater numbers.  I have a lot of things to thank for my peaceful living.

Before I go, I’d like to include my excitement for the new baseball season. Only a few more weeks until Exhibition and then soon the 2018 regular season will begin. We are going all the way this year. Go Blue!Opening DayStay tuned for some other great news that I will be sharing with you in the weeks to come. Next week I will be featuring author Graysen Morgen. You are going to want to mark this one down and you will see why next week.

Until Next Time,

Lynn

#FF #Flashback Friday – Meet Author KA Moll

Good afternoon everyone and a warm welcome to you all. I want to thank author Darla Baker for stopping by last week. It was a pleasure to have you. For those of you who missed her interview, you can click on the link below.

https://lynnlawler.blogspot.com/2017/11/meet-author-darla-baker.html

Today I’m reposting my interview with author KA Moll that was originally published on 04-Mar-17. Since then she’s been busy and published ‘Blue Ice Landing’ and as Cade Brogan, ‘Close Enough to Touch.’ In addition, she is hard at work with her next project, a sequel to her best selling romance ‘Change of Heart,’ due out in early 2018. KA is an amazing woman . Read on to find out more about this dynamic story teller.

***

Good afternoon friends and welcome.  Today I have a special treat for you.  Author K.A. Moll has stopped by to chat.  She is busy underway with several writing projects, one of which is discussed below.  I read her book, ‘Change of Heart’ and reviewed it on 26-Aug-16.  This is definitely one to put on your reading list.

Author PhotoAbout all you can do in life is be who you are. Some people will love you for you. Most will love you for what you can do for them, and some won’t like you at all.

~ Rita Mae Brown

What is ‘Change of Heart’ about?

It’s a story about high school sweethearts, reunited after two decades. It’s about how these two women move beyond hurt feelings and shattered trust to rekindle their flame that still burns hot.

What was your inspiration behind the book cover for ‘Change of Heart’?

The cover for ‘Change of Heart’ is from a watercolor created by my biological sister, Cindy. Her work is also on the cover of “For A Moment’s Indiscretion.” I don’t know how she managed to get inside my head to capture this story in her painting…but she did. I was adopted as a preemie and didn’t find her until I was in my forties. It never fails to amaze me how we connected. It feels as if she’s been a part of my life forever.

Did you do any types of writing while you were in school?  If so, did you receive any awards or recognition for your work?

I was on the school newspaper in high school and I took writing/literature courses in college.

Was there anyone or anything in your life who encouraged you to write?   If so, what did they do?

My wife is my number one beta reader and my biggest fan. I couldn’t accomplish half of what I do without her support and input.

Is there a different genre that you’d like to write a story in and why?

No, not really. If there were, I’d have probably already written it. To date, I’ve written books in romance, paranormal, and suspense/thriller.

One day you get the call asking if you’d like to make ‘Change of Heart’ into a movie.  Who would you cast as the main players?

Wow…that’d be a nice call. Hmmmm…I guess Lily Gladstone for Jack…but she’d need a haircut. And for Courtney…I guess Stana Katic.

Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Thank you. Thank you so much for reading my books and for opening your hearts to my characters, most of whom have considerable emotional baggage.

Can you elaborate on what has worked for you to regenerate creativity?

So far, I’ve been fortunate to have not needed much regeneration. If anything, I’ve had to beat stories down so that one could move forward. If I did need to regenerate, I’d listen to smooth jazz or walk a nature trail.

Have you ever created a character (either main or supporting) who was so awful in personality that even you felt dislike toward?

Jahi in “Haunting Love” was a nasty piece of work.

What musical groups do you follow and can you describe their style?

I like Fay Wolf, Hem, and k.d. Lang.

What is your favorite vegetarian meal?

I like most all vegetarian dishes a lot…especially Indian and Cajan…Mmmm, red beans and rice. But…I suppose my favorite would have to be my wife’s broccoli casserole.

Let’s give a shout out to TriPub books.  What would you like to say to them?

…That I couldn’t be more pleased…but they already know that.

What has been your favorite part of being an author?  The least favorite?

I pretty much love everything about it…but I suppose if I had to choose, my favorite thing would be getting to know and be a part of this amazing lesfic community. Least favorite…hummm…well I guess that would have to be marketing.

What other authors do you follow?  Which books would you recommend?

I’m a HUGE Radclyffe fan…although I must admit I like her older works better. My favorite of all her books is “Passion’s Bright Fury.” Next in line would be “Love’s Melody Lost.”

What is in the works next for you?

My work in progress is titled “To Believe In Magic.” Jack and Courtney from “Change of Heart” will be strong secondary characters in the work. If all goes well, it should release mid-summer.

Change of Heart book coverHere’s an excerpt from ‘Change of Heart’…

Jack opened the passenger door for Courtney and she climbed in. Then Jack walked around the vehicle to climb in the other side. She sighed as she looked over her shoulder to back out of the narrow driveway. “When are you gonna tell me, Courtie?” she asked.

Courtney began to cry.

“I can see it’s tearing you up inside,” Jack continued. “I think you’d feel better if you told me.” Courtney cried a little harder.

“Whatever it is,” Jack said softly, “it happened a longtime ago and we’ve moved on.” She shifted gears. “Why can’t you just tell me?”

Courtney hiccupped a sob.

“Okay, I’ll leave you be,” Jack said. “I guess you’ll tell me when you’re ready.”
