My Review for Domina Alexandra’s ‘A Night Claimed’

Hello everyone and welcome. As I promised, today I’m presenting my review for Domina Alexandra’s new book, ‘A Night Claimed.’ If you love paranormal with intense drama, you are in for a real treat. This story takes you into an unknown zone which excited me as I read.Author Photo 3

Bonnie, the protagonist, is a dedicated paramedic and has seen it all. She is tough and can take care of herself; she is a leader and doesn’t like others to own her. When it comes to her job, she is the utmost professional and takes charge of the situation. At the same time, her loving demeanor is addicting and people are comforted by her kindness. She is a strong loving woman and I admired that trait in her.

All is well until one night a good deed backfires on her. No longer is she able to take things for granted and she has to learn the hard way what it takes to live her new life and accept it. The story describes Bonnie’s transition to her new life and her desperation to hang on to her old life. She shows real emotion and resistance to this.

There are two people who helped Bonnie through her transition and who enhanced the story, Rosemary and Rikki.A Night Claimed Cover

Rosemary works at the hospital where Bonnie takes many of her patients. She is strong-willed but soft-spoken. She has an enormous amount of patience when it comes to Bonnie. She comes off as easy going and truly is interested in Bonnie’s well-being.

Rikki is a friend of Rosemary. She is direct, but not forward. She is accepting and patient, especially with Bonnie. She takes Bonnie under her wing. There is loving energy about her that draws people in, including Bonnie’s mother. Rikki is very wise and says the right thing at the right time. I really admire her gentleness towards people, yet still holding the reins. She is physically strong and exerts herself when seriously provoked.

The author doesn’t rush the story by putting in a romance scene too early. I love it when the players get to know each other first before they get intimate. The intimate scenes are very hot and tender.

The pace of the book is just right, neither too fast nor too slow. I like how the author delivers the story one step at a time. The descriptions are excellent. I felt like I was there in the scenes with Bonnie. You are going to want to carve out about five hours of your day to read this as you won’t want to put it down. I found myself wanting more as the plot thickened. I am recommending ‘A Night Claimed’ for everyone.

Here is an excerpt to get you started.

“You shouldn’t be here, Bonnie.”

Thanks for the warm welcome, Rosemary.

I knew I shouldn’t have come to the hospital. It was just a nightmare. But I honestly didn’t know where else I could go in the middle of the night. I did not want to be at home. The sound of the clicking hazards lurked in my eardrums.

“Here.” Rosemary handed me a napkin. “It’s late. You should be home.”

I wiped the sweat from my forehead while I studied Rosemary. She was the only one who brought me any comfort since the incident, and I couldn’t pinpoint why. Her features softened as she met my gaze – her cheekbones, her jaw, her lips. They all appeared fuller than they had only moments ago.

“You hungry? We have pizza in the break room.” Clearly, Rosemary was going to be the one carrying the weight of this conversation.

I grinned toothily at the question. My appetite suddenly returned. “Absolutely.”

I left her in the room and sprinted to the breakroom, my mind only focused on one thing: pizza. It’s not a bad idea, right? But I never made it there. As soon as I crossed the threshold into the ER, the biting, iron scent of blood suffocated my nostrils. The wound on my shoulder ached, and a hunger like I’d never experienced exploded in my gut. My eyes narrowed in pursuit, searching for the source of the smell.

A stretcher whooshed past me surrounded by a bevy of paramedics. A man drenched in blood that was pouring from deep, jagged cuts wailed and struggled against the pain. I felt my consciousness slip away and something else rose to take its place. I lunged forward – a thing, a creature of undiluted impulse, advancing for the most basic of needs. That syrupy, mineral liquid of life. The thrill of flesh tearing apart.

I never caught my prey.

Supernaturally strong arms enveloped me. I shrieked and struggled, but the arms only drew around me more tightly. They spun me, dragged me into the breakroom, and then slammed me against the wall. They were Rosemary’s. Before I could react, she locked the door and turned to face me. Her face was no longer soft, no longer full. Rosemary’s cheekbones were sharp edges, her jaws were straight lines.

“Bonnie,” she snarled. “Bonnie, calm down!”

I blinked rapidly, my chest caving in with each breath I expelled. Confused, I looked to Rosemary hoping for an explanation. She pulled me into a hug, and I relaxed in her embrace.

“Only a panic attack. We are fine,” Rosemary purred, stroking the middle of my back.

“Focus on your breathing. I’m right here.”

I only nodded.

“Stay here.” She squeezed my hand and left the room.

She didn’t need to say anything. There was no way I was going to make an appearance after that display.

While I waited for her to return, I wondered if I had actually suffered a panic attack or mental break. It was possible, given what I had endured, but it didn’t feel like it was anything so commonplace as either of those options. The longer I puzzled over the possibilities, the more I realized that this would not be explained so easily.

“Well, I’m dipping out early. We are going to take a trip.” Rosemary smiled reassuringly when she reentered the room.

“With you? Where?” I wasn’t in the mood for a trip anywhere except home. “You trust me?” Rosemary asked.

It didn’t really sound like a question. It was a challenge.

Meet Author Domina Alexandra

Good Afternoon friends and welcome. Today I’m turning the reins over to Triplicity Publishing author Domina Alexandra whose book, ‘A Night Claimed‘, just debuted. Having beta read this story I can tell you it is one you’re going to want to put on your reading list. It offers a bit of paranormal, which I like.

A Night Claimed Cover

Let’s go meet Domina. She is starting out with an excerpt from her book, ‘A Night Claimed.’ Her protagonist, Bonnie, is strong, but a feisty woman.

*

Her eyes were gold when they met mine. She was gnashing at her inner bottom lip. She took a deep breath. “How do you feel?”

“I’m fine, mother.” I made no attempt to hide my sarcasm.

“You think what happened is a joke? Do you know what could have happened?”

“What are you talking about?”

“Challenging an unknown werewolf is dangerous even on the best of days but challenging one when you are a newborn wolf is just plain moronic.” She stood abruptly, and in the blink of an eye she sped from her chair to the fireplace that was four feet away. “You risked your life. Rosemary’s life!”

“I didn’t do anything wrong.” I scowled in defiance. “I never threatened—”

“Mockery. Rude remarks. Sarcasm. You were basically telling that werewolf that you didn’t take him seriously. That he is unimportant. That you are not concerned about what he can do to you.”

“I wasn’t.” I pressed my hand against the pain in my ribcage. “He butted into my conversation. He had no right—”

A Night Claimed Cover

“Perhaps not.” Rikki’s eyes narrowed again as she interrupted me once more. She returned to her chair in front of me. “You can’t continue to speak to others as you do to humans. You are no longer a human. And to a werewolf…if you use sarcasm or any form that can be a means to challenge them, they have a right to prove they are the stronger werewolf. Living as dominant wolves, that means something. For you…an Omega…your life is doubly at risk. You are not capable of submitting unless you truly choose. And to werewolves that is another slap in their faces.”

I shook my head…

… “Perhaps I should have died when I was attacked.”

I knew it was anger and grief speaking. Why was I feeling so overwhelmed with emotions?

“I can’t. I will not be belittled. Degraded. For anyone. Never. It is not in my nature to bow.” I wiped my tears as they fell. The frustration of this conversation broke my emotional barrier into tiny fragments.

“I am not asking you to submit to any man or woman who offends you.” Her look told me she had a but coming. “Yet, you are in a new world. You will die within the first year if you don’t understand…there is a new language you must learn. And in that, you will learn how to defend yourself from those who challenge, question, or offend you without starting a fight. You cannot avoid this.”

“I just don’t see how this is my fault. I didn’t want to fight—”

“I know you didn’t. But now…in this new world you live in, what you say, more importantly, how you speak matters. Rosemary is a submissive wolf. She was so terrified by what happened that it took me an hour to get her out from underneath the table.”

My eyes widened when I realized how stupid I had been acting. This was no longer about me anymore. I was in a whole new world whether I accepted it or not. The last thing I wanted was to die over dumb words. Dumb choices. And Rosemary. My ignorance put her in danger.

Author Photo 3

As a writer, I am asked, why this story? What is my characters purpose? It’s simple and complex all at once. Bonnie can be anyone. You, me, or your best friend. Bonnie has her career as a paramedic. Has a family. Lives a normal life. And then some rogue werewolf comes and ruins it all. What was mundane to her, is now not!

Forced into a world she didn’t ask for. Finding out she’s something more.

I wanted to merge the supernatural and mundane world together. Where Bonnie is in a tug of war between her old and new life. But, it’s more than letting go of her old life. She has to let go of her way of thinking and handling situations.

Starting off in denial, Bonnie has no choice but to accept what she now is. A werewolf. And then there’s Rikki. The Alpha. Let’s not go there.

Yes, this is a romance. But, this is something more. This is a new coming of age for Bonnie. With claws and canines coming at her in all directions.

Fortunately, this story has more to offer than action and romance. A Night Claimed, means something more to me, that I hope you as readers can see. To be taken out of our element without permission. Forced to live a new life without choice. It’s up to you as readers to choose what that means for you.

I know one thing! Bonnie is not one to submit. She is not submissive nor cares to hold power. She’s stubborn and has a very smart mouth. Inquisitive and brave.

Creating Bonnie’s world was a pleasure I look forward to lingering inside on occasion. And as readers, I hope you all join me!

Awakened by Fate

Good afternoon Friends and welcome. I hope you all enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving. We went to visit our family and had a blast. It was great seeing everyone and I’m feeling a lot of gratitude. Things are going well and I wanted to share with you another promo for my book, ‘Awakened by Fate.’
Cover Photo

A lot goes into the making of a good book. In my case, it took several years. I am currently working on a few other manuscripts. Writing the story is the easy part. The hard part is editing and moving things around. I like to have the story in good shape before I send it off to the beta readers. Then they have their own notes I follow. You have to make sure everything ties together and there are no plot holes. It is easy to put in a minor character and then forget about them. That’s why it is so important to have an outline or two handy, to keep me on track.

Jackie is an interesting character in that she is so self-absorbed she doesn’t see what is going on around her. She thinks she’s doing a good job at work, at least until a rush comes in, then she doesn’t fare so well. She is walking along a path that leads to nowhere.

In the book, I go into greater details about her relationships with others. There is one woman that Jackie can’t upset. Out of jealousy and worried about losing her job, Jackie sets out to sabotage her new co-worker.
Mystical Jackie.jpgShe thinks she has her life in order, but can’t see the flaws in it at least she ignores the signs. A big disappointment happens and she still doesn’t see the truth.

It is interesting regarding Jackie’s choice of lovers, including one whom she got caught with. I chose for her to have a platonic relationship with her husband for this part of the story. He is gone a lot, but one has to wonder whether or not he is choosing to go on these assignments since their relationship draws out the worst in both of them.

Along the way, Jackie meets up with others who are able to be supportive of her as she goes through her change. Even still, she has her own ideas.

At the beginning of the story, Jackie has an estranged relationship with her family and has issues regarding them. Here she has a golden opportunity to clear up the tangled strands. But it isn’t easy and some things go unsaid that should be spoken.

I chose a complicated character because wanted her to have a bumpy ride before she realizes who she really is.

Here is another exciting excerpt from this story:

###

“Welcome to the big league, Jackie.”

“You like the flyer?”

“Yes. Lisa is such a genius with her work. If it’s okay with you I’d like to take some of your flyers and post them around town and pass out at my next gig. What do you say?”

Smiling, Jackie said, “Sure.”

Giving her a hug, Trish said, “That’s my girl. Don’t be surprised when the phone calls start coming in. What do you say we spend some time tonight working on affirmations that you can post around your condo to remind you when you’re feeling off balance?”

Trish and Jackie's secret place

Jackie went to the office and returned with a pen and notebook. She and Trish stayed up to all hours of the night working. By the time they went to bed, Jackie passed out.

*

The gentle breeze brushed up against her cheek and the scent of pine and aspen was in the air. Looking around, Jackie saw that she was in a lush, breathtaking forest. The sun shone down through the trees, making the dew on the grass glisten. The wind whistled a soft song. In the distance, she saw a deer that turned to look at her. He stood still for a brief minute, but when she moved her hand, he turned and ran away.

She continued walking until she came to a small, grassy clearing. She lay down in the thick carpet and closed her eyes. For several minutes, she breathed in the clean, crisp air and allowed her mind to just wander. The sun felt warm, beating down on her face, and she allowed herself to soak up the rays.

The sound of a twig snapping caused her to freeze up. Panic overcame her as she sat up. Then in the distance, she saw two very tall women with long, flaxen, hair, sparkling blue eyes, and a healthy glow from their faces, standing next to a large aspen tree.

Jackie stood up and started walking towards them. They continued to stay put, as if they were waiting for her.

“Do I know you?”

The woman on the left replied, “Yes, you do. We have been with you on your current journey and are here to check in with you. How are you doing, Jackie?”

Puzzled, she looked hard at the two of them and thought. Then she spoke. “What do you mean by my current journey?”

“Your current incarnation. We are here to guide you as you walk through your life. You called us here at this time because you needed our assistance.”

“I’m at a loss here. Sorry.”

“You appear to be at a crossroads with several aspects in your life and are confused about which path to take. We cannot tell you which one to follow, but we can tell you that you will soon find the answer. You will need to go to a sacred place to receive it.”

Jackie replied in a huffy tone, “And where do I need to go to receive this message?”

“Ask Trish and she will take you there.”

“What do you mean ask Trish? What does she have to do with this?”

“Just trust what we are telling you. When you go to this place, go deep inside and the answer will come to you.”

A minute later, both women disappeared into the air and Jackie was left alone, standing in the forest. Without another thought she closed her eyes for a minute. When she opened them, she saw a fox sitting in the exact spot where the two women had been standing. Jackie stood there for several moments staring at the animal until he, too, disappeared.
Early in the morning on Kauai

*

The second she woke, she wrote down what she remembered from her dream. Looking over, she saw a peaceful looking Trish lying next to her, breathing softly. Quietly, she stole out to the kitchen to make some coffee. The morning sun was inviting, so she went out on the balcony to absorb the rays of sunshine.

About twenty minutes later, Trish appeared in the doorway with a cup of joe in her hand. Smiling, she said, “You look radiant today.”

“Thanks.”

Trish sat down. Pointing at her notebook, she said, “Anything interesting come to you recently?”

“Oh, my. I had this weird dream last night,” she went into details of it.

Grasping her hands, Trish widened her eyes and said, “Hey, that is amazing! These two women are your spirit guides. It sounds like they want you to get out into nature. I know of a wonderful place that’s not too far away where we can go hiking sometime if you’re up for it. The best time to go is in the early morning when the sun is rising.”

“What do you think they are saying? I don’t get their secret.”

“I think I do.”

“And…,” Jackie said.

“You are definitely ready for this phase of your life. It sounds like the women want to show you something. Now that I think of it, I know of an even better place I can take you for a nature walk.”

“Is it far away?”

“Let me take care of the details.”

Around Trish’s neck was her fox medallion. Jackie’s heart skipped a beat. Trish looked down and smiled. Then she took it off and put it around Jackie’s neck and kissed it. “Allow good things to manifest.”

Fall and Halloween

Hello Everyone. Thank you for stopping by last week for my ‘Awakened by Fate‘ blog. It was a huge turnout and you are the best readers. I can’t thank you enough.IMG_1310IMG_1311

It is that time of year again when the colors change and the temperatures drop. No more triple digit weather this year. Now we are into fall and it is amazing. We finally had some long-awaited rain and now my backyard is happy. One thing I love about this time of year is Halloween. I have loved this holiday since I was a kid going out trick or treating each year around my childhood neighborhood. I remember in high school, I dressed up as the grim reaper complete with a tight-fitting rubber mask. It was funny how none of the other kids outside didn’t know who I was.

Our neighborhood has an elementary school on the next block and each year all the kids come pouring in to gather their treats. We get about 300 kids and it is a blast watching them walk up to the door in their costumes, coming to collect their treat. We usually have candy to pass out. We get all sorts of kids, including high school kids since we also live near a high school. We get kids dressed in Hogwarts uniforms which I feel is the cutest next to a little girl who was dressed up as a fairy. They are all polite and say thank you.

This year, we have decked out the house with our pumpkins and our lights, not mention the scary music we play. We keep our door open until about 9:00 p.m. or until our candy runs out. We have a big plastic pumpkin in which we fill to the brim with candy. I, of course, pick out a few pieces for myself, but the rest is for the kids. We love to carve our pumpkins and put a candle inside to make them into jack-o-lanterns. We also have pie pumpkins which will be made into either pumpkin bread or pumpkin pie.

Our neighbor has a big inflatable pumpkin in front of her house. She puts up balloons which she gives out to the children. It is great that my street is involved with this holiday as it is important to the kids, as I know from my own childhood.

Last year the World Series was on during that night, so of course, we had our tv on as we passed out the treats. One man showed up with his kids with a radio. He heard the sounds coming from our tv and asked how the game was going. It was fun talking to him briefly about the sport as I gave his kids candy.

This year the Dodgers are in it again, playing the Red Sox. This weekend they are at home at Dodger Stadium. I’m hoping for a huge win tonight. It has been a rollar coaster for me during this years post season. The Dodgers almost didn’t make get their division title or the National League Pennant. Whew!

It is now the beginning of the holiday season and for this year I’m focusing on gratitude and what I can do to be of service. We participate in an annual blanket drive for the homeless. We help out by bagging and tagging the blankets and taking them down to downtown Los Angeles to distribute to the people there. I’ll tell it is a rush helping them out and I got a lot of God Bless’s last year. I’m looking forward to this year’s drive.

Pumpkin2How about you? What are you grateful for and what types of service work are you participating in this season?

Thank you for your support!

Good afternoon Friends and welcome. Thank you for stopping by last week for my reposting of Graysen Morgen‘s interview. It was a huge turnout and it was great seeing you all and meeting new people. I am very grateful for your interest and support. I couldn’t have done it without you. I wanted to personally thank many people who have been with me on this journey.

KA Moll, Graysen Morgen, Breanna Hughes, Laure Dherbécourt, Anne Hagen, Nico J. Genes, Domina Alexandra, Ethyl Barker, Alicia Joseph, Lara Estes, Jeri Estes, Jennifer Lynn, Lou Gape, Natasja Hellenthal, Erin Wade, Charli Whiskey.

There are many more people who have been supportive and I thank you as well. This part of my life has had many dips and peaks, right now I’m moving towards a peak and it feels good. It feels good doing my interviews and book reviews. I am planning to start up on interviews later on this year so stay tuned.
IMG_1312Today I wanted to touch upon gratitude. We all have things in our lives that we are grateful for and they can be big, small, or in-between. They all help us evolve along our spiritual paths. I am grateful for my life and for everyone who is part of it. My success includes you all. We are all one and it is important for us to support each other. My fan base includes people from all walks of life and all types of life purposes. I am grateful I am at a point in my life where I can reflect on all the good that is happening now.

Gratitude can come in all forms. It can happen at any time. When we give we are telling the universe thanks for our existance. We can give in all forms. My form of giving is in the form of writing. I love my book and my blogs. It feels good sharing my entries with you each week.

I would like to share with you a bit about my book, ‘Awakened by Fate.’ The reason why I chose the protagonist is that I wanted to show a woman’ who’s life is out of control and the reasons why. Her alcohol abuse is a big contributing factor and I wanted to show how it wasn’t working in her life. I chose her to be in a traditional relationship because I wanted to tell the world how trapped she felt in her own life. She gets married to fullfil a family duty. Her entire world is upside down and I reveal things about her that get her thinking about the path that is in her reach.

Mystical JackieI’ve been told she is a cheater by some readers. Yes she has outside relationships because her marriage is open. She seeks to the outside for pleasure because she can’t see into her own soul. This is what she needs to see first. In the real world these relationships are out there and can work, if the partners are honest with each other, which I’ve seen. Jackie’s addictive behaviour makes it easy for her to be a liar, not to others, but to herself.

I want the world to see what she has to go through so she can begin to value herself as a worthy woman. I believe she is capable of being in a monogamous relationship and that the right person is out there for her. She just needs to keep an open mind and heart.

I’m happy you have been sharing your thoughts with me about my book. I feel it has made me a stronger writer. I’m currently working on three projects, two of which are slotted to be released next year. Again I want to thank you for all your support.

Stay tuned for next week when I’ll be presenting something new.

Until Next Time,

Lynn

Excerpt 1

Later at home, Jackie began her night with a soak in the Jacuzzi and a glass of wine. With the sage incense burning, she lay back and allowed her mind to wander. Soon she fell into the rhythm of the rippling water. Within an instant her worries about work were out of her thoughts. The only thing that mattered was being in the here and now.
Her solitude was interrupted by the ring of her phone. Smiling, Jackie pressed the answer key.

“Hi Jackie, are you busy now?” Lisa asked.

“No, I’m just having a relaxing evening at home. And you?”

“Getting ready to get into my Jacuzzi.”

Jackie smiled to herself and replied, “Oh, wow! How’d you know I’m in mine?”

“Oh, it just came to me. Since everyone is out of the house, tonight would be a perfect night for a soak.” Pausing a moment, Lisa continued, “Anyway, I just called to tell you that next Thursday, my friend, Jen, has an art showing at the Illusion Gallery in West Hollywood. I was wondering if you’d like to go with me.”

Jackie’s eyes lit up. She and Kyle had been there years ago, and she really liked the art.
“Lisa, I’d love to go with you. What type of work does your friend do?”

“She is a contemporary artist who adds photographs to her work. If you would like, I can send you a link to her web site.”

Jackie rattled off her email address.

“Oh, I haven’t told you this yet.”

“What’s that?”

“For some time now I’ve been dabbling in some artwork myself. I do sculpture and would like to show you a piece that I just finished.”

Jackie felt herself tense up. Now she understood the image she had witnessed at Lauren’s party. Still she was baffled. “That would be great. I’d love to see your work.”

“All right. While you’re here I’ll show you something else I’ve been playing with.” Lisa then explained her love for African masks.

“This is so wonderful. Tell me more about your African safari vacation,” Jackie said.

Jackie and Lisa spoke for a little while.

Excerpt 2

Jackie shuddered. After a quick debate, she decided not to confide in her. After all she didn’t know Lisa very well and didn’t want to burden her with her problems.

“Thanks.”

“Listen, the reason for my call was that I wanted to know what you were doing next Thursday. If I’m not mistaken, don’t you have that day off?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, I was wondering if you’d like to come over and see my sculptures.”

Energetically, Jackie replied, “I’d love to come over and see your work. Recently a friend took me to an art gallery and they had one sculpture artist.

“I just love working with plaster. Sometimes I paint them. Tribal looks are my favorite. I have a picture of one that I recently sold that I’d like to show you.”

“I wished it was next Thursday already. I know I’m in for a real treat.”

“It’s a date then. How about around 6:00 p.m?”

After Jackie hung up the phone, she went to the kitchen and refilled her glass. Plopping on the couch, she thought about her vision she’d witnessed of Lisa.

I wonder if Lisa is going to hit the big time? Why else did this come to me?

“I know, why don’t I try a meditation and see if anything comes forward,” she said aloud.

She prepared.

It didn’t take her long to get relaxed, since she was already drunk. Closing her eyes, she began deep breathing. Soon the white glowing screen materialized. At first, all she saw were colored shapes. Then people started to materialize.

Suddenly, Jackie saw herself among the crowd. Loud voices and music were all around her, clear as day. The smell of beer and smoke filled the air. With awe in her eyes, Jackie looked amongst the people huddled in front of the Bowtie Club.

A group of people emerged from the bar and walked over to the curb. One person met eye contact with Jackie and gave her a strange look. Jackie looked away, not caring what it meant. Looking around, she recognized a woman whom she used to know down at the corner. Jackie moved in closer.

A chill crept up her legs, so she walked more briskly. Once at the corner, she met eye contact with her friend. However, the woman just kept talking like nothing at all. No matter how much Jackie waved, she could not get her attention. Disappointed, she turned to walk down the street. When she got to the corner, she turned and continued walking.

Out of nowhere came the loud barking of a large dog. Frantically, she bolted down the street as fast as she could. To her horror, the dog chased her!

I’ve got to get to safety, and fast too!

The next thing she knew, she was back in her living room and rubbing her legs, trying to get warm and out of breath. She tried to rationalize what had just happened and had no success. And then a dog reacted to her. Frightened, she left all the lights on and before she went to bed.

Summer 2018 with Lynn

Good afternoon Everyone and welcome. It is great to see you today. Thank you for stopping by last week to read my review of Nico J. Genes’Lessons in Life.’ Today I’m sharing a few things happening in my life over the past few months.
Picture 3As many of you know, this year I published my book, ‘Awakened By Fate,’ a story about a troubled woman who is forced to walk in another direction after a tragedy one night. Now she is confronted with her fears as she adapts to her new way of life. Things that she used to throw off her shoulders were now in her face. Along the way, she meets new friends. Is romance on the horizon? We shall see.

Summer for all my life has been my favorite season of the year. Not so after this year. In July, we had over 100 degree days with one being 117. Thankfully, we got out of town that weekend and went up to enjoy the coolness of Cambria, which is located on the coast along Central CA. It was really beautiful and we got to see baby elephant seals playing in the ocean. We were in heaven.

We went to another show this year – Tribal Seeds, which for those who aren’t familiar is a Reggae band. We took a road trip out to Riverside, CA to see them. The venue was better than I had expected. What was nice was we were able to sit in our seats up on the balcony and see the show from above. I felt there was too much light action and distracted me from the show. However, the music was really nice and I got into the groove right away.
IMG_1155It wouldn’t be summer without a trip to Dodger Stadium. We went to see the Dodgers play the Arizona Diamondbacks. We had great seats and, as usual, had a blast. Unfortunately, they lost that night. There will be next time.

I have been actively at work on two manuscripts. One of them has a mystery element to it as well as a paranormal theme. There is also romance. I really love my protagonist and like what she does in the book. She is kindhearted and gives back.

My other work in progress is fantasy and paranormal. I’m not giving away the location of the story so you are going to have to wait until it debuts. It is told from two points of view. Both of my protagonists are fabulous, each having a different personality. I also have supporting characters who enhance the story. There is plenty of romance. All in all, it has been a fun journey with this one.
IMG_1101My life wouldn’t be complete without me reading a few great books by some great authors. I recently read Nico J. Genes‘, ‘Reverie Series‘ and Jenny Frame‘s, ‘Unexpected.’ Both my reviews are in the archives of this blog. I encourage you to check them out. Nico also invited me to write the forward to her latest book, ‘Lessons in Life.’ This was a huge honor and I thank Nico a thousand times.

Recently I had an interview with Bryan Aiello on what inspired me to become a writer as well as other things about me. It was a fun interview and I thank Bryan for taking the time to talk with me. You can listen to the interview here:

Awakened by Fate

Good Afternoon Friends and welcome. Thank you for visiting last week for my review of Nico J. Genes‘ ‘Reverie Girl.’ If you haven’t had a chance to read this amazing tale, I’m encouraging you to get your copy. You will not be disappointed.

I want to thank you all for your continued support for my book, ‘Awakened by Fate.’ Recently I was interviewed by SW Andersen. You can check it out by clicking on the link below:

Out of jealousy and worried about losing her job, Jackie sets out to sabotage her new co-worker sent there to help her get back to speed.

Mystical Jackie

She thinks she has her life in order, but can’t see the flaws in it at least she ignores the signs.

Here she has a golden opportunity to clear up the mangled strands. But it isn’t easy as you will see in the book and some things go unsaid that should be spoken.

You are going to have to read the book to find out more.

Cover PhotoI am including another excerpt:

*

Once at home with her night’s supply of booze, she got herself settled. Her phone beeped. It was Robyn again. She picked it up and texted back, “Thank you. I had fun with you last night too. I’m turning in early tonight.”  Then she tossed the device on the sofa.

“I so need to chill tonight. Why won’t this wine work faster?” she said aloud.

Then she remembered something. In the book she was reading, the author spoke of meditation.

That’s it!

She drained her glass and set it on the coffee table. Closing her eyes, she began to do the breathing exercise that Madeline had showed her. She repeated the exercise until she was in a deep relaxed state.

Picture 3Immediately the white dot materialized, and she focused on it as it danced. Then colors appeared. Before she knew it, she was watching a whole kaleidoscope in front of her. A glowing white screen, similar to that in a movie theatre, materialized. The bright light reached out to her and she felt a warm sensation all over. Faint movement appeared on the screen. She further concentrated.

A man she didn’t know was sitting at a bar looking like he was waiting for someone. The atmosphere was rustic. A few large-screen TVs showed baseball games.

The man was soon joined by another man – Kyle. He patted him on the back and sat down on the stool next to him. He got the server’s attention and ordered himself a drink.

He and the man started a conversation, but their voices were muffled, and she could not make it out. A few minutes later, the server returned with Kyle’s drink: a nice foamy beer. Her eyes widened.

This is just a figment of my imagination.

Kyle and his friend continued to talk while Jackie looked around the bar. On one of the walls was a pennant that said “Chicago Cubs.”

Kyle ordered another beer and turned to his friend and mouthed the word “baseball.” Both men turned to a TV that was showing that day’s baseball scores. The Dodgers were ahead in the sixth inning and the Cubs had lost.

Then the bartender came over to both men and shook their hands. He smiled as both men handed him cash.

2839D237-0672-4E3E-9A56-E283862A339F

Gasping, Jackie broke her meditation. Pausing a moment, she jumped off the couch and darted into office, her heart racing the entire time.

She sat down at her computer, her chest still pounding. Frantically, she typed in the Major League Baseball website.

Her eyes widened as she stared at the screen. Not only had the Cubs lost, the score was the same that she had seen on the screen in her meditation! The Dodgers’ score, too, was the same.

Confused, she put her hands on her head and tried to calm down. Not only was Kyle putting his probation into jeopardy, he was also gambling, something he’d told Jackie previously that he was going to cut out.

If this was true, then Jackie had leverage to use against him should he dig into her about her Sunday outings.

Two can play at this game.

Since I had some experiences myself I do believe in « paranormal » so I like it when I can find a good book with a paranormal background.

With « Awakened by Fate » I was surprised (in the good sense of the term) since the blurb doesn’t give us a lot about this side. Unlike some people who just rewrite the plot or give spoilers in their “reviews”, I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t give any details but let me say I liked a lot how Jackie struggles to process and learn to use her spiritual side and new abilities in the same time she fights her old bad habits (which is never easy so we must be patient … and let her do that at her own pace).
Not on the married and « bad habits » side but in a lot of others, I recognized a lot of things I went through in Jackie’s new life (including the meeting with the good people at the good moment) so I found this novel very interesting.

This unusual book could be helpful for people who are courageous enough to follow a path which usually frightens them … So people, keep an open mind and give this novel a try!!

Thank you for visiting today. It was a pleasure to see you all. Stay tuned for next week when I’ll be featuring a #Flashback Friday of an interview with a lesfic author whose books are the talk of the town.

Until Next Time,

Lynn

Jun 26, 2018 Nico Genes rated it it was amazing

Shelves: lesfic, paranormal, spirituality, fav, romance, lgbt, emotional-thriller

The main character of this novel is Jackie, a young attractive woman. She is married but has her husband’s approval to pursue her inclination for being with women as long as he remains the only man in her life. After a car accident, Jackie suffers a concussion that causes her something impossible to understand and accept, at first. Her world is turned upside down and only when she tries finding out more about what had happened she is starting to understand. Initially, Jackie’s reaction is normal as everything is strange and hard to accept. In a course of events and with the help of her friends she makes slow steps forward. A new woman starts being part of her life that plays the role of a lover and offers her a tremendous support. Looking at the name of the book it was normal to expect an awakening.

Even though this book has a paranormal element I loved that the author created real-life characters and happenings. Jackie was a heavy drinker and she didn’t acknowledge her problem, despite her husband’s comments and certain events. Her husband was not perfect either, he had his alcohol and gambling issues and didn’t seem to be the best partner. Jackie hasn’t been in the past very close to her family but during her transformation, she managed to solve this issue. With her sister’s big help she started her alcohol-free period. I didn’t have to resonate fully with the main character to let myself withdrawn in the story and I loved it. I followed carefully her journey and I found myself inspired by the way she was developing her spiritual side. The more she evolved in that area the more she was making the other parts of her life right.

I enjoyed everything related to spirituality, Reiki, meditation, grounding exercises that inspired me to dig further in this area. I liked the ending too, which answered some questions and left me feeling eager to know what is going to be next. I loved the Lawler’s writing style. I felt it sincere and very comforting and I am looking forward to reading other works by this author.

Type of reader: Although this novel falls under lesbian paranormal fiction I recommend it to a wider audience with love for a strong female lead facing personal transformation.

My favorite quotes from this book:

“As she lay there, she thought about her day. It had been a very spiritual experience. There were times that she’d felt at one with the trees, and she understood their language.”

“Let go and open up and allow the good things to manifest.”

“If you want change, then you need to be that change.”

When the car came to a stop, Jackie was jolted back to reality. The valet opened the door just as a stunning brunette walked by. Her red-sequined, strapless dress barely covered her cleavage. She wore a delicate necklace decorated with the name ‘Holly’ in gold lettering.

Holly, Hmmm.

She turned her head towards Jackie and gave her a once-over. Jackie, not knowing how to react, looked towards the ground.

Kyle took her hand and they made their way to the party, already underway.

Greg was greeting guests at the front door. Upon seeing Kyle and Jackie, he said, “Welcome, I’m glad you’re here. Make yourselves at home. The bar is out back.”

“Thank you,” Jackie answered.

Kyle and Greg stayed at the entrance chatting.

What do they have to talk about at a party? It must be work or golf…guy talk. How rude.

She set off alone to the back of the house. She could not help but notice how elegantly Greg’s family lived. Their home was beautiful. Passing through French doors, she went outside where Chinese lanterns illuminated the large patio. Near the pool, a buffet table with hors d’oeuvres was decoratively arranged. To the left, was what she had come outside for: the bar.

Staring at the bartender, she said under her breath, “Hmm. A cute butch serving alcohol. Perfect!”

Mystical Jackie

Jackie walked up to the bartender and asked flirtatiously, “So, what would you recommend for a gal who doesn’t know anyone here?”

“I’ll bet you’d love a Long Island Iced Tea.” In a lower voice, she added, “They are my specialty.”

“I’d love that.”

“My name’s Trish. And if you need someone to talk to, you can always find me here. That’s what bartenders are for.” She began to make Jackie’s drink.

Jackie could not help but notice the fox medallion hanging around Trish’s neck.

How interesting, as Jackie had always been drawn to foxes.

Thanking her for her drink, she turned and walked over to the buffet and got herself a small plate of crudités. She headed towards an empty chair near the edge of the pool. She picked at her food and guzzled her drink as she watched the other guests mingle. Already she was wishing the night was over. Clouds were moving in with the dark skies.

Please rain so I can go home.

The buzz from her first drink was kicking in. She got up to get another.

She thought she heard her name being called in the distance. Turning her head, she gasped. About twenty feet in front of her was Holly, her temptress.

Did I just hear that? Wishful thinking or did she ask about me? How else could she know my name?

Cover PhotoEarly in the morning on Kauai

She approached Jackie, and with a seductive look, she winked and whispered, “Well, aren’t you radiant?” Jackie felt a pat on her derriere as her heart raced with excitement.

Ohhhhhhhh!

Holly strolled away, her hips wiggling, as if in a game of cat and mouse.

Wanna play? I’m in!

Suddenly, Jackie felt herself flush and become light-headed. Grasping the nearest chair, she collapsed in it as she saw stars. The excitement and the alcohol on an empty stomach hit her hard.

When the wave passed, she looked around, but saw no sign of Holly. Disappointed, she sat quietly for several minutes, deciding what to do next.

A wicked smile emerged across her face as she realized the possibility of a rendezvous with Holly in the pool house she noticed on her right. First line of business, however, was to get a refill.

The bar was crowded. She stood wishing the line would hurry up. She was on a mission to find her temptress.

Soon after Jackie heard a whisper in her ear.

“Meet me.”

The sound of Holly’s voice caused Jackie to salivate.

I’m winning this game tonight.

Thank you for stopping by today. This means a lot, not just for me, but for everyone else who has helped me along the way. I couldn’t have done it without you. Stay tuned for next week when I’ll be featuring a book review.

My review for Nico J. Genes’ ‘Magnetic Reverie’

Good Morning everyone and a warm welcome to you all. I want to thank everyone who participated in my Rafflecoptor, and to congratulate the winners. Special thanks to Stephanie Potos Biedlingmaier and Donna McGuinness for all your efforts.

This morning I’ve had a change of plans and will be instead presenting you my review for Author Nico J. Genes’Magnetic Reverie.’ I had the pleasure of interviewing Nico here on the blog last week. You can click the link below to read it.

Nico J. Genes Interview
IMG_20170506_103845_557

This story takes place in the US and in Slovenia. What I can first say is that I was impressed with the descriptions the author did with her home country. She offers a little history too, I felt like I was visiting a friend there, which was comforting. And the sites were magnificent.

There is a big twist near the beginning of the story that will hook you. After this part, I had to find out more. This story subject matter is of a paranormal nature, so of course, I fell in love with it right away. At the beginning of each chapter, there is an introductory paragraph or quote giving you a clue about the chapter’s content. Very well done.

Magnetic Reverie Cover

It starts off with the protagonist, Lana, preparing to embark on a new journey into an unfamiliar place. Like anyone else who is in her shoes, she ponders what her life is going to be like. From the start of the book, I found myself imagining the feelings she was experiencing in anticipation of what was to come next. Her confusion starts early in the story, which triggered my curiosity. I had to ask myself, is she losing her mind or is there something much greater?

I felt she had some insecurities and sometimes doubted herself. However, she knew certain things about herself very well and had standards. I applaud the author for making her a bit mysterious. Lana manages to live her life as best as she can. She expresses many emotions and I found her to be a likable character.

51c0b900-0018-11e8-8d06-b1c71a8980a4

She’s married to a man, but deep inside craves the intimacy of a woman. She has a secret obsession which she keeps to herself.

Now meet Claire. She’s one of Lana’s lovers who had a rough upbringing. She is a good listener and takes an understanding of the situation Lana is in. She’s a strong fighter when it comes to Lana and cherishes the relationship. She is spontaneous and adventuresome and really knows how to make a good time special.

The sensual scenes are perfectly described and hot! There is enough to go around. The flirting between Lana and Claire got my adrenaline moving. The author took great care in creating these scenes. You’ll see what I mean when you read the book.

IMG_20180409_121048IMG_20180409_121401Get ready for a roller coaster because this story is going to blow you away. The pace is fast and gets you thinking. I had to slow down reading so I didn’t miss anything. The story flows very well and the tone is inviting. The author does an excellent job of handling the complexity of Lana. The plot had me guessing the entire ride. All I can is WOW! I am recommending this book to everyone and it is one that will stay with me for a long time.

You are going to want to read her next book in the series, ‘Reverie Girl.’

Magnetic Reverie Excerpt

“We were ready for bed when I realized that my leg was hurting and swollen. It wasn’t just a sprain after all. I didn’t want to worry her, but she noticed it. She took immediate action and went to the landlord for ice and a towel. She used the towel to put the ice in and wrapped it around my ankle. She tied it up with her scarf. I looked at how carefully she took care of my leg. My heart was swelling with love. I spent time looking at her, and her gesture touched my heart and made me feel special.

“I love you,” I said. Despite the low volume, she heard me. She looked at me. Her eyes were sparkling. For a moment, she didn’t say or do anything, mostly because she was shocked. She wasn’t expecting to hear it, but I realized that what I felt for her was true love. This was it! I was in love with the girl from my dreams! She came closer and hugged me and began to kiss me deeply. It seemed that her eyes were in tears. I was sure they were tears of happiness. “I love you too, babe. I have never stopped loving you. You made me so happy now. My dream came true!” she said and continued kissing me. She was so happy.

IMG_20180409_122725
IMG_20180419_123403

She stopped for a while with the kisses and continued telling me, “This was my wish when I pulled the rope in the chapel. I wanted to hear you tell me at least once more that you love me. These words from your mouth are music to my ears.”

Hearing this made me feel even better. It was a moment of great joy, happiness and fulfillment, and also of hope. As her wish came true, there were chances that my wish could come true as well. We fell asleep, hugging each other, with smiles on our faces. I never wanted this to end. I was happy, very happy. Although I was tired, Claire fell asleep before I did. Her hands were curled around me, and I felt her breath. It was a relaxing sound. She was so beautiful at night, too, my angel with blue eyes, blond hair and a wonderful heart. And her heart belonged to me.

Purchase ‘Magnetic Reverie’

I want to thank you for stopping by. Stay tuned as I will be reviewing her second book, ‘Reverie Girl‘ soon.
