Good afternoon Friends and a warm welcome to you. Thank you for stopping by last week for my review for Barbara Winkes‘ ‘Bells Will Be Ringing.’ Today Barbara Winkes is here to share with you.
A Merry Surprise…
First of all, thanks to Lynn for having me today!
I’m going to tell you a bit about how my Christmas romance Bells Will Be Ringing came about. I’ve written romance before, but if you picked up one of my books, there’s a bigger chance you started with one of my thrillers. Between the standalones and the Carpenter/Harding series, I often end up on the darker side—though I do like a romantic subplot.
Most of the time, I’m drawn to the kind of story that ends with the protagonist confronting the bad guy, and she comes out the winner. It’s what I like to read and watch, too.
Around this time of year though, my wife and I tend to record a lot of holiday movies. We’ve done this for a few years now, stock up on them for when we slow down a bit and are in the mood for something lighter. The days are shorter, we always get a lot of snow…Sweet romantic tales fit the bill. And like many viewers, I know of, we got a bit frustrated at the lack of women-loving-women characters anywhere in those movies. We sat down to talk about what we would like to see in what would be a Christmas movie we’d love—complete with imagery you typically associate, ice-skating, a wood-burning fire-place, romance…between two women.
Like my thrillers, Bells Will Be Ringing was written from a place of, “I don’t see enough of this in the media, and I do want more.”
So this is my contribution. If you, too, enjoy a bit of a slower pace at the end of the year, I hope you’ll like it! If you are looking for a faster pace and darker themes, Killer Instinct is less merry, though it does take place around Christmas.
Whatever your choices are, I wish you safe and peaceful times!

Lynn Lawler is a fiction writer, whose stories are greatly inspired by the LGBTQ community. Her newest novel, Enticed by Love is about a woman who is haunted by a past love while another waits on the horizon. As the story unfolds a mystery comes
to life. The woman possesses special abilities that she uses in a positive way to help others. Can she put the past to rest so she can move forward?
Her other novel, Awakened by Fate is a story about a woman in denial about her true potential who encounters a reality that opens her up to a new awareness; suddenly things she feared the most became her life.
Lynn has had a lifelong interest in writing and wrote short stories while in school. In college, she wrote an editorial that was published in The Detroit Free Press. It focused on the positives of children’s education in the sciences. She found this to be very inspiring and felt
that people needed awareness to create an attraction for students to study science.
During her early adult years, Lynn went on a spiritual journey to Arizona seeking enlightenment. While there she got to experience some things that were life-changing. She first managed a vendor booth, selling nutritional supplements at an open market. Then, as one door closed another one opened. After this job ended the next day she started working at a produce department in Tempe, AZ. While working at the coop, she educated people on sprouting as well as the health benefits of juicing. Lynn is vegan and has been vegetarian her whole adult life.
She also has work experience in Architectural design. She likes the creativity of this field, but her passion lies in writing.
Lynn renewed her writing desire after she watched a documentary on the life of the 20th-century writer Willa Cather. At the same time, she experienced a loss that encouraged her to take this direction. After writing the initial outline and first draft, the author embraced a new perception that changed the path of her life. The trials of Lynn’s life have only served as stepping stones to a brighter outlook and a stronger spirit.
Lynn has always been a fan of books with some of her favorite authors being Mary Higgins Clark and J.K. Rowling. She also loves reading the works of other LGBTQ authors such as Suzie Carr, KA Moll, and Domina Alexandra as well as others. She enjoys material of the unknown, mysterious, and mystical.
She is the owner of Lynn Lawler’s Book Blog, a site where she has guest blogs, reviews, and author news. It can be found at www.lynnlawler.blog. You can keep up to date by visiting, www.lynnlawlerbooks.com and by subscribing to her newsletter.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, meditation, watching baseball, and playing Tomb Raider. She lives in SoCal with her wife and cats.
